Currently, school bus drivers and those under 18 are prohibited from using cell phones while driving. There are also several bills to prevent “distracted driving” under consideration by the house. HB 19 seeks to “add a points penalty for the use of cellular, hands-free, or mobile telephones or other wireless communication devices under certain circumstances” as a driving penalty for those who were using cell phones at the time of an accident. However, Representative Mark Ramsey has stated “I would not be optimistic it would pass this year.”
