About

TxtResponsibly.org (the idea and the website) was created by the staff at Pica Design. Hearing news stories about the dangers of texting while driving, the statistics started to sink in: a distracted driver is 23 times more likely to cause a car accident than an undistracted driver, according to the recent VirginiaTech Transportation Institute Study. To put this into a more familiar context, drunk drivers are 7 times more likely to cause a car accident than sober drivers.

Texting while driving seems to be commonplace. Discussing the issue at work, many of us shared stories about people distracted by handheld devices while driving. In the news, more and more stories of accidents were cropping up; not only about the teen who fell into a sewer while texting (at least she only got stinky), but we found we got downright offended by the thought of drivers responsible for numbers of passengers on buses and trains texting while driving and causing major accidents.

This could hit home. This could endanger anyone, anywhere. Can you imagine causing a fatal accident because you wanted to relay a quick message to a friend about your evening plans? We were compelled to act. TxtResponsibly.org became our cause.

As a graphic design and marketing company, we create visual communications on a daily basis. We decided to challenge ourselves to design a campaign to create awareness of the dangers of texting while driving. Could we actually help shift the trends and affect change?

We are exploring ways to fund additional online resources and PSA tools to distribute free of charge. In addition, we have formed an exploratory committee to determine whether TxtResponsibly.org should become a non-profit organization. We invite you to send us your ideas, comments, thoughts or concerns. Please contact us at info@txtresponsibly.org.
